Eye Care – Our Experts Answer Your Questions

We know that wearing contact lenses requires a little extra care and attention, and you may have questions along the way.

That’s why we have a team of trained experts on hand to help you look after your eyes between optician visits. Roshni answers the three most frequently asked questions about eye care.

Can I switch from daily to monthly lenses?

Yes, it’s possible. If you’re thinking about changing the type, brand, or wearing frequency of your lenses, you’ll simply need to visit your optician first.

Contact lenses differ in material, as well as common parameters such as base curve and diameter. They also have different wearing and care requirements. Your optician will check the material and fitting parameters, vision, and comfort, and will also advise you on cleaning and storing your lenses with an appropriate solution and case.

Does base curve and diameter matter?

Yes, base curve and diameter are important parts of your prescription. Together they determine how well the lens will fit your eye. Think of it this way: just as one shoe size doesn’t fit all feet, one contact lens doesn’t fit all eyes.

If the curvature of the lens doesn’t match the shape of your eye, you may experience discomfort, blurred vision, or even eye damage. A well-fitted contact lens should also cover the corneal zone (the transparent protective outer layer), which is why diameter matters too.

Even the smallest difference in base curve and diameter measurements can affect how the contact lens sits on the eye.

Can I buy coloured lenses that correct astigmatism?

Only a small number of contact lens manufacturers produce coloured contact lenses for astigmatism (also known as toric lenses) due to the number of parameters involved.

As with all contact lenses, it’s very important to only buy from a trusted retailer to ensure they are safe for your eyes. We recommend visiting your optician or ophthalmologist for advice on the options available to you. If you have mild astigmatism, your optician may be able to compensate through your prescription, removing the need for toric lenses altogether.
